CRUX launches Asia ex-Japan equity strategy

CRUX Asset Management Ltd. (“CRUX”), the active equity investment manager, has launched into Asia with an actively managed, long-term growth focused Asia ex-Japan equity strategy. With £100m assets under management (AUM), the fund seeks to deliver strong investment returns through bottom-up, high-conviction stock selection using proven valuation methodologies and intimate knowledge of undervalued and underappreciated capital growth opportunities in Asia.

The CRUX Asia ex-Japan Fund places growth investing at the core of its philosophy. CRUX’s Asia team is targeting a portfolio of 60-100 Asian companies unconstrained by sector exposure, which demonstrate high-velocity, renewed or persistent growth. With high Active Share of approximately 80%, the Luxembourg-regulated UCITS fund seeks to invest in companies which will double their revenue earnings over a 3-5-year-plus investment period. The fund is available to retail and institutional investors.

CRUX’s Asia strategy is managed by Citywire AAA-rated manager* Ewan Markson-Brown and deputy manager Damian Taylor. Prior to joining CRUX in September 2021, Ewan regularly outperformed the MSCI Asia Index ex-Japan while managing the Baillie Gifford Pacific Fund, which ranked in the top decile for one-, three- and five-year performance in its sector**. Damian joins CRUX on 2 December 2021 from Martin Currie, where he was portfolio manager for the firm’s flagship Asia Long-Term Unconstrained strategy.

Ewan Markson-Brown, Asia fund manager at CRUX, said: “The rapid adoption of new technologies, a rising middle class, and the financialisation of Asian economies has created a rich, diverse opportunity set full of change and underappreciated growth. By anticipating change, embracing uncertainty and having the courage to invest in companies at pivotal moments of growth, this new fund is well positioned to cut through the noise, capture unique growth opportunities and deliver long-term returns for our investors.”

CRUX’s Asia team also includes analysts Ishaan Bhatia and Ryan Soh, who specialise in evaluating public and private stage growth opportunities in India and Greater China & Southeast Asia respectively.
